Turning 1 in February

Most of February was spent in Virginia with Dave working and myself and Janelle doing whatever Janelle and I do (play, cook, clean, go on walks, play in the park, shop...).  With a month of routine under our belts we felt ready for our trip to Maine to celebrate Janelle's 1st birthday and to play in the snow.  We kept hearing about the great snow they've been getting and the great state of Maine did not disappoint; a snow storm was brewing and arrived on Janelle's birthday!  Unfortunately before the snow storm we experienced a few rainy moments, but that didn't get us down.  We were anxious to get out to go xc skiing even if it was a little slick.  So on day two of our trip we went xc skiing.  Janelle got to go for a ride in her new sled as Mom, T'Auntie Val, Dave and I were able to slide around.

Lucky for us Mom (Cheryl) scored some ski tickets to Shawnee Peak and so we gathered a crew together (Dave, Janelle, Mom, Grammy Marr, Uncle Jeff, Jon Marr, Calvin and Becky) and headed for the slopes for day three of our visit.  It was story book day so as you can imagine it was pretty amusing to spy out all the characters on the slopes.  As Janelle was amused by all the characters, except spider man who she was scared of, Calvin took his first turns on the hill who I heard was a natural.  I actually missed out on this last bit because I was off snowboarding with Becky.  Since Janelle has been born there has been very few times I have been separated from her, which is how I like it, but little ventures like this are sure to keep my sanity in check.  It was so much fun!

Day four of our trip we spent the day preparing for Janelle's birthday party.  Trips were made to get supplies for decorations and food and for the remainder of the day we slaved away at our masterpieces.

On day five, February 24 which was two days before Janelle's actual birthday, we threw Janelle a party fit for a one year old.  We kept it small as not to overwhelm little J and I think that worked well.  Unfortunately that meant we didn't invite all of Janelle's family because it's not small.  Being the sociable girl she is you could tell she really enjoyed following around her cousins, opening presents and of course eating cake.

On our last full day in Maine it was still snowing from the day before and the snow was accumulating under foot.  It was absolutely gorgeous out.  The day before we convinced Jon Marr to go xc skiing in the morning before we dropped him off at his father's in Brighton.  Somehow we also convinced Sarah to come too!  The driving was slow going getting us back home in Windham at 2pm, but it was worth it.  Unfortunately with the slow driving and information from Dad that South Portland wasn't plowing very well, we had to cancel our visit with Dad, Jean and Mimi and unfortunately our plane was leaving the next day.  We wish we had the fore site to see this happening and tried to visit at a different time. The remainder of the day was spent packing and cleaning from the party.  We were pooped.

Bright and early we left the house to meet our plane departing at 8am.  The flight went well, but with a squirmy Janelle I think we've decided to try not to travel by plane anymore.  In the mean time we're hoping spring weather is more like summer weather in Virginia so we can skip the rain and head to the beach.

Hope you all had a great February.
Much love,
The Virginia Moehls
